Sweet Sweet Spirit

They started showing up thirty minutes early. For the next half hour they drifted into our home from near and far. We opened our home to host a prayer meeting. When all was said and done we had over 20 people present. When most of them arrived we did what we set out to do. We devoted ourselves to prayer. We didn't talk about prayer. We just prayed and how sweet the sound of those petitions.

So many came Turner thought we would run out of chairs. We had our dining room chairs, folding chairs from the garage in addition to our living room furniture. During our praying I thought about a passage in Acts. Another prayer meeting from history.

Acts 1:13-14 (NKJV)
13  And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James.
14  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

That is what it felt like to have so many gathered in our home for prayer. Beautiful supplications were lifted. Tears were shed. Adoration and thanksgiving were expressed. Earnest pleas for God's help were petitioned. I don't know how long we prayed. Time did not matter.

At the end we concluded our time by singing, "There's a sweet sweet spirit in this place. And I know that it's the Spirit of the Lord. There are sweet expressions on each face. And I know that it's the presence of the Lord. Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet Heavenly Dove, You're right here with us filling us with Your love. And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise; without a doubt we'll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place." - Doris Akers

We followed our praying with some fellowship. Brenda made savory food as she is prone to do. I saw people gathered in little pockets all around the living room and table. Sweet fellowship. I tried to make my way to each little group to spend some time with our guests. It was a blessing to have all th0se people we love in our home. Not just for fellowship. The highlight of the evening was our praying.

To all those who came thank you for your support and the bond you shared by our praying together. If you were unable to attend not to worry. We will gather again in a couple of weeks at another home. I look forward to that gathering and believe a sweet sweet spirit will also be in that home.
