Camp Meeting Devotions - Day Thirty-Five

On the tenth night of the revival meetings, coal miners came running to the church straight from the mines in their dirty work clothes. They feared if they went home to clean up first, they would not be able to get a seat inside. The powerful presence of God swept over that community and spread to others one after the other.

The leader asked God for 100,000 souls to get saved across the nation. Within six months of the start, 100,000 people were saved. What started out as revival turned into to spiritual awakening across the land. Within a year the move of God swept the planet reaching distant shores.

Can you guess how it all started? With one man praying diligently for thirteen years for God to help His nation. Thirteen years. We sometimes find it hard to sustain prayer for a month. We are prone to give up way too easily. Revival does not come easily. There is an incubation period. There is a period of travail to give birth to the move of God. Travail. Labor pains.

We are prone to give up too easily. How many have conceived the burden and carry the embryo of revival deep in their souls? God puts it there before it ever becomes reality for other people to experience. Only God can grip the guts of a person with a fiery burden to see people get right with God. Only God birth prayer and sustain the burden through faith into physical reality for as long as it takes. Such praying takes two things. Faith and perseverance.

Hebrews 11:1 (NASB)
1  Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

 Luke 18:1 (NASB)

1  Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,

Faith is seeing something in the spiritual realm that does not yet exist in the physical realm. Perseverance is enduring patiently and not losing heart until the desired outcome happens. How many of us have the idea conceived in our souls that God wants to revive His people? How many will daily grind in prayer not giving up when the answer is delayed.

  • Do you have a God conceived idea and burden in your heart for a move of God?
  • What has God put in your heart that He wants to do in you and around you?
  • What is the level of your faith and perseverance?
