Peaking Above the Covers

God allows me to have some amazing experiences. I recently got to travel to a place with authentic log cabins, scenic views, and a sneak peak at a memorable sunrise.

I stood on a high peak with my host waiting for the sun to come up over the horizon. Like a child slowly peaking his or her head above the covers, the sun slowly rose over the blanket of earth. I stood silent along with my host lost in the wonder of worship.

I have witnessed this same scene over the ocean, but it did not compare to this day. From our lofty perch we could see across the county. Some moments are too big for words. Stunned silence says it all. That sunrise was such a moment. The sun peaked above the earth slowly but steadily. A bright orange ball rising in the distance. What a thrill. The dawning sun pierced the last remnants of darkness giving way to marvelous light. Brilliant light. A majestic sight that happens every morning many of us take for granted or sleep right through.

After a few moments my host asked, "Preacher what do you see?" I did not answer right away as I took the whole scene in. The only words I could think were, "The glory of God." He answered that he thought, "God is giving me another chance. Another day to do better than I did yesterday."

Each day is a gift from God. Someone once said what we do with that day is our gift back to God. May we redeem the time while we have the chance and not take glorious scenes like the sun peaking above the covers of planet earth for granted.
